Verdict: 9/9 of us will return!!!

I think my favourite was still the Crab Bee Hoon Soup and the Chilli Crab.
1) Soup was not too rich and thick and had a little burnt taste to it. Comparable to Melben ( Not recommended for takeaways)
2) Chilli Crab Sauce was not watery and quite flavourful 🙂
3) Highly Recommended especially if you have a big group and looking for an air-conditioned round table Zhi Char restaurant 🙂
4) Would want to come back to try their other Crab dishes

Fa cai mei seafood

I do apologise for the delay in posts!

Been quite busy with the festive occasion and caught up with some school work as well.

Merry Christmas Everyone!! 🙂 Hope that this festive season did brighten up your year!

Anyway, the next place that I will be talking about .. well I would say is a new-found zhi char place that my parents found by chance, and hence .. it has been included in our list of  ‘favourite zhi char’ in Singapore. ..

This place is quite .. well driving there would be easy to get there! because it’s quite a  .. small corner off the main road .. but do look out for it or try it if you are in the vicinity!

we met up with aunty I .. and she had to contribute some dishes for her family’s dinner 🙂 (I think it’s quite a good concept that each sibling in their family takes turn to buy dinner for everyone ) So my mum recommended this place to her.  For our own dinner as well, we also bought back and we had :

3 types of egg spinach

Salted Egg Yolk Crab

Sweet and Sour Pork

Assam Fish

The next dish that I would say is the signature dish and highly recommended especially if you like bean curd, would be this fried bean curd!

Verdict:  5/5 of us definitely would return here to take away/eat again!

The food is very agreeable with all the fussy ones in my family!
The place is run by this couple, husband the chef and wife takes on the supporting role of waitress and cashier.

The crab  is very different from the other types of  salted egg yolk crabs I had . I would say different in a good way!  Because the meat itself is pretty succulent and yes the whole marinade is not too saltish for all my family members.

The sweet and sour pork is also quite decent. It is still ‘crispy’ despite being drenched in sauce.

The Assam fish was very well received with my parents! They said the sourness was just the way they liked it.

The vegetables both spinach and fish sliced one was very well done. The fish slice one had the ‘wok hei’ (the magnitude of the fire to cook the dish was just nice) and the other one’s ‘soup’ was pretty tasty as well. 🙂

I think it’s just this place, the menu always have new items? because the owner does try to come up with new dishes apart from his signature ones. I quite like that they are constantly trying out new things and would really make you want to go back there.

It is overall decently priced and affordable 🙂

Uncle Leong Seafood Restaurant

Accompanied my mum to take away some food off at Toa Pyoh.
We learned from the owner’s son that he is a relative of the guy who opened one of the more favourite crab joint among the locals, Melben.
As we were driving into this ‘factory-like’ corner coffee shop, I was thinking to myself ‘huh really? a crab place in the midst of all these factories?’

Entrance of the Shop

and on a close up, there are many write ups about this hidden gem.

Write Ups

“Open Kitchen”

The take away took a while . Glazing around this hidden coffee shop, at least on every table had the claypot crab bee hoon dish. It was also full house on a weekday night!! We however, decided to go for something different, so we ordered

Butter Crab

Chilli Crab

and of course, to go with the chilli crab, not forgetting its best friend

Fried Mantou

Verdict: 4/4 of us will return! The quality of crab is indisputable – The crabs were very meaty and succulent.  Sauce however, hmm.. slightly not as nice as Melben for the chilli crab. Butter crab however was just on the spot (but I also wonder if it’s because we have not had it for a long time so we really enjoy it). But worth the trouble going down for it!

利強記北角雞蛋仔

One of my favourite all time Hong Kong Snack 雞蛋仔
Its like some times, you just don’t feel like having a complete meal, or rather those times that you feel like you want to have something in between your meals, not too heavy, just greedily something to munch on that is not too savoury, at yet at the same time not too sweet , I highly reccomand this 🙂

The key and skill of making this snack, is to not let the little puffies ( the circular parts that pops out on both sides) too soft and nua when it starts to cool down. There is no filling inside, just thought I let you know but i like it. I did ever walk around and see some stalls selling 1/2 plain flavoured ones and 1/2 chocolate ones.

I super love this and when reccomanded to my friend in Hong Kong, he also seems to take a liking to it 🙂

I usually take a ferry over to tsim tsha tsui to get this! This stall is filled with celebrities photos, and I think they have another outlet in north point as well.

So i trudged off and met a friend since hes also looking for a job in Hong Kong .. He wanted to go to the famous wanton mee place at Wellington Street, Central.. but was too crowded, so I suggested going to the one across the street called 沾记

Its on the side that when you go up the soho escalators, immediately on your left with your back away from IFC ..

Wanton mee, Kai lan with oyster sauce and Home made fish ball and beef

Home made fish ball and beef slices

ok, you all must be wondering wth? you are in hong kong and you don’t order the wanton mee?? firstly, nothing against the noodles, but as you probably have noticed, I hate prawns. I can take them in soup, but to eat it, I hate the texture.  So ironically I land myself in the land of prawn heaven but I dont eat it ;p

So the fish ball was quite mutan sized – not used to it being so big and soft (nua-ish) in comparison to the Singapore bouncy and smaller fishballs. It had a lemony taste, more ‘fish-pasty-ish’ and the beef  to me felt like they overused their tenderizor ..  nonetheless the noodles is Q-ish ..

None the less the shop does have alot of awards and News paper cuttings. It has its own character in that there is only a certain number of variations in the types of noodles that you can order, as well as side dishes.

Its a miss for me . I used to like it in 2008 when I went there to try with my family, but now I don’t think I will return for seconds :/

first proper meal in hong kong – failss
i felt bad to suggest it
