1. the crab cakes, we totally adore them! let me show you why and you will understand why we ordered seconds of this!!! where in the world in Singapore can you find real crabmeat fully stuffed crab cakes?  this is the holy grail of crab cakes! totally brought it up one notch

close up of crab cakes

close up of crab cakes

2. The crab was really well done – the herb and butter was not really a western style herb and butter .. in the sense it’s not like creamy until you feel sick of eating it .. its pretty light and well seasoned.

3. the combo bag was also really spicy ( If you eat laksa without adding the additional chilli, can’t finish a bowl of curry yong tau fu from food courts without adding more chilli, cannot finish a bowl of spicy ma la hotpot without the soup, then you would think the combo bag is spicy)  but really flavourful! the second favourite dish after the crab cakes and oysters

4. My prawn eaters mentioned  that the moonshine tiger prawns were also worth the bill and the next highlight because the prawns were very fresh, and the accompanying sauce ( 3 different types of chilli sauce with different spicy levels) was just awesome  ( better than the prawns in the combo bag)

5. this place is really interesting in terms of the dinning concept. let the pictures below explain why:

Lady Boss

Lady Boss

Verdict: 5/5 of us will return

1. Always try to look for the lady boss to place an order! she is really friendly! and to add, after all these years of knowing her, she  has not aged at all!

2. If you enjoy Chinese style of lobsters, this is one of the better places to go to in Singapore in my humble opinion because the meat is really fresh. They do take pride in serving the freshest seafood whenever possible, but attached to it is also a premium 🙂

3. My family is not really a family that eats a lot of steamboats when we dine together, but this place, their home-made balls and fish paste is really different from the ones outside. Not too starchy and texture wise not too bouncy like a ping-pong ball.

4. The beancurd sheets gluten dish is one of my all time favourite dish to order. Can’t be found in many places and their origin is from Malaysia -> I think due to the natural water source, soya products from there, specifically Ipoh are really of a better quality and just taste really different from the ones we have here in Singapore 🙂

Verdict: 4.5/5 of us will return
1. Brunch was quite good I would say.. would not say to die for totally but still decent we all reckon.
2. Coffee -> one of the determining factor for good brunches. This place boasts of using Toby estate coffee beans. Hmm .. Not that I am a total coffee connoisseur but I reckon if you do like your coffee to have a ‘mocha-ish’ taste you might like their coffee.
3. lemon tart was well balanced : not too sweet and not too sharp. Well-liked and approved by the sweet tooth around.
4. Do you know you could rent bicycles to cycle around the compound?

5. one good thing about hanging around hipsters area : sometimes if you are lucky, you get to see celebrities! we chanced upon :

Verdict: 6/10 of us will return.
We ordered the set and con-sensually agreed that the glutinous rice was the best dish out of all. (usually quite surprising because the carbohydrates dishes usually are just very ordinary) The moment it was served to the table, the smell of the rice permeated the table. The rice was cooked really well in terms of moisture and chewy-ness.
The rest of the other dishes were good, but all concluded were not something that they will specially go back for it. Although most of the dishes are of standard seriously, but just didn’t really impress us. The rice did, surprisingly.
Would recommend if you have business lunches or Chinese elders. Nice View 🙂

Snapper

Verdict: 2/2 of us will return

it is quite a hearty meal I must admit. Both of us were stuffed full after the meal.
The fish was well executed, the sides were seared nicely with a little crisp, and yet not drowned in oil.
Garden risotto was very hearty although it was all vegetables, it was pretty substantial.

A very nicely tucked away for chillout sessions or just catching up 🙂
Will like to try the brunch next time 🙂

1. Maybe partly was too sweet for us ; though the flavours were pretty interesting. I shared the Horlicks shaved ice. I thought was pretty good but just a little too much
2. The Soyabean flavoured one tasted like Mr bean ice-cream-> though I think I prefer Mr bean (I really need to put up the post on it) .. kinda reminds me of blackball
3. The rest of the desserts were not bad

1. Beef was really different from the other types of korean restaurants around. The cut was good and the quality, you can just taste the difference = we were all happy to pay this premium, we ordered two rounds. Both the seasoned and non seasoned beef was good. We had seconds
2. Spicy Chicken was really really spicy ( if your spiciness level goes below …. if you think drinking kim chi stew is the limit for you, do not try this)
3. Egg was good, slightly different texture than a normal chawanmushi, but nonetheless, fluffy, light and has quite a heavy chicken stock taste
5. Pork was good, we ordered two rounds in all. good balance of fats and meat for the pork

*do reserve in advance if possible, because the queue seems to be forever long.

Max Brenner

Used to hang out at this place when I was abroad in Melbourne
Today, I was treated kindly by a classmate

926

Fondue: Caramel, Chocolate and White Chocolate

928

Chocolate Chai Tea 🙂

929

Peanutbutter Shake

923

Crepe

Verdict: 5/5 of us will return.
I had the chocolate chai .. I must say it is very uniquely nice for all those who likes chai tea latte and wants to take the sweetness a notch higher, this is highly recommended. After a few glasses however, it just was too much for me .. Better this be shared 🙂

The fondue was good, chocolate was solid, not those diluted mixed up chocolate or cheapo melted chocolate.

Crepe was also good -> snapped up very fast

For all who needs a quick chocolate fix, try this place! in Melbourne I remember eating the waffles! super awesome there! but I am not too sure about here .. have yet to try! perhaps on the next trip back!

So the steps to it is that, you first cook the meat on the protruding side, then you go on to pour chicken stock (in a teapot) into the pot until it reaches a certain level. In doing so, the juices of the meat will flow into the broth and after a while, your broth will be very sweet and nice. In the soup, throw in the vegetables to cook, as well as fish cakes etc etc ..
Apart from the smell (my bag was smelly for 3 days – no exaggeration),  It was pretty good and value for money. Quality of the meat and ingredients were not the cheap kind that disintegrates the moment you pick up using your chopsticks or not like you see in most steamboat restaurants. Nice for a change.
