Cebu: #3.2 Razon’s Halo-halo

Following the full meal, my friend brought us to this traditional Filipino Dessert House to try their dessert:
Halo Halo

While waiting for the dessert, around the vicinity this shop below has second hand clothes that come from all over the world ( from funerals or even US and all) that are priced really cheap! At times, you can even find money inside that people forgot to take out.

Back to the dessert, so we ordered to share:

Verdict: 7/7 of us will return.
The kids really loved the ice-cream they had to really be at each other’s throats to share it 🙂
Halo Halo, this is the first time I am eating this, and by far I think it resembles our local dessert Chendol to some extent. Between the layers of ice, there are dried jackfruit, banana, gula melaka and other things inside that I am not sure what the name is. On top is like a “creme bulee” equivalent. Very interesting dessert I have eaten thus far.
The Palabok is just a simple type of noodle (reminds me of mee siam/mee rebus to some extent because of the texture of the sauce and the ingredients). The sauce kinda taste abit faint, not starchy as I thought it would be.

If only we had a bigger stomach!!!

Last day here today ..

prior ordering food at the restaurant, I asked my friend if she heard of Ngo Hiong ( another snack that another classmate recommended to try)
She brought me across the road to get

A neighbour sitting next to us was teaching us how to  prepare and use what was given.
you basically wear the glove, use the banana leaf as a plate and squeeze the lime. On the table, there should be soy sauce and chilli, feel free to add that into your saucer as well
The rice is cold, and people will just open it beforehand and push it into their plate.
You will be charged for however many you take/ open into your plate.

Verdict: 2/2 of us will return
I was honestly apprehensive going in there and eating the food ( for sanitation reasons) and really scared to end up with a bad stomach ( we only after all have 1 toilet shared between 2 of us .. and if two of us gets food poisoning at the same time, it could be quite a terrible night)
But, we amazingly didn’t end up with that problem.
The marinade of the BBQ were mostly very sweet, like a sweet sauce equivalent, and the fish was very fresh we ordered two rounds. It was really good I must say, apart from the heat from the BBQs and cooking. A very good experience nonetheless.  If you are more adventurous, there are like chicken gizzards and all as well to choose from.
we even chanced upon a famous Filipino celebrity!!

Cebu: #2.2 Ayala Mall

So we headed back to the city (earlier than expected)
and decided to check out ayala mall  (near to our hotel)

We chanced upon Krispy Kreme and saw that they had more new items (compared to Singapore) and decided to go try

Mango Kruffin : This tasted like a muffin and doughnut mixed together. The batter was thick, but there was cream inside, mango cream to be specific. The mango was really sweet by itself, so after a while couldn’t finish this whole thing. It was just interesting nonetheless. Filipinos really take their sweets very seriously! 🙂

Of course, decided to go and try this place since we were around the vicinity:
Jollibee

(I must say though, it was around .. 4 pm that we decided to go in and order and there were so many people around!!!
we tried to order without rice because we just wanted to try, but some how or rather, they didn’t really allow us to do that
Every meal in Jollibee came with RICE

Verdict: 0/2 of us will return.
We finally tried it but ok, compared to KFC or Popeyes, I think I prefer Popeyes better. My friend said she likes KFC better though hahaha .. but ok at least we got to try this for now

Following this, we went to Tumalog Falls
If we had to describe this place, it would be like those period Chinese painting setting just right infront of us.
There were swallows that were flying around in circles,
writing and my pictures (taken by the tour guide) does not do justice to this place really ..

If not for a classmate that graciously took time to help us get around, including bringing us to experience local things,
we would not have made it down.

Verdict: 2/2 of us will never return.
My friend who love savoury food, and super high tolerance for salty food ( not to the extent of dipping already salted fries with salt but just a notch lower), even she couldn’t take the saltiness of her fish.
This was really bad.
