Mr. Curry/Cafe de Waraku

So I thought I have a quick bite before having to go for a fair that goes on during dinner time..

I just went nearby to marina square and decided to eat something Japanese so I found this restaurant that is a seems to be a sub chain of waraku,

And ordered my self

20120917-171434.jpg

Katsu Curry Rice

And you can customise your own kind of curry and add side dishes! So I ordered as a side dish

20120917-171453.jpg

Mushroom

Verdict: I don’t think I will return here.. The curry was like fruity? I didn’t really like it.. And the mushrooms were a little over fried .. :/

Gastronomia for seconds

Another trip to gastronomia to buy some sweetness back to the family πŸ™‚

So I bought this for my parents:

20120916-050752.jpg

And this for myself

20120916-050947.jpg

20120916-050933.jpg

Verdict: 3/3 of us won’t buy this ever
Pound cakes : the cake was not very moist – it was in fact dry and too sweet for my parents. They prefer those from Fredo Galaxy instead.
Nutella cake : it was too sweet for me too and got very ‘sick’ after making my way 1/4 through it. The nutella was not as thick as I liked it, tasted more like a hazelnut cake slice :/ I think I will just stick to the yoghurt crumble instead πŸ™‚

Gastronomia
1 Kim Seng Promenade

Old Airport Road

Troops and I decided to try a different place to satisfy troopie mother’s craving for local food and we all met at old kallang airport road πŸ™‚

So we ordered quite a fair bit to share..

20120909-172835.jpg

20120909-172848.jpg

20120909-172858.jpg

All of this ordered from this store

20120909-172951.jpg

And of course from the famous lao fu zi

20120909-173107.jpg

And to round off dessert, I let them try Lao ban, but I found another stall that I thought tasted better than Lao ban – thicker in their bean taste

20120909-173405.jpg

Verdict: 3/5 of us will return. I will definitely return for the char kuey teow and the beancurd. The hokkien mee is the top dish liked by the troopies.. But the carrot cake and oyster omelette is a little disappointing.. :/

Sun with Moon

Troopie mother and her friend wanted to go sing karaoke but we found out that the place had closed down :/ hahaha so we decided to go have a snack and chillax instead πŸ™‚

So we walked towards wheelock since troopie mother was craving for Japanese desserts.. So we ordered to share:

20120909-171606.jpg

20120909-171623.jpg

20120909-171704.jpg

20120909-171720.jpg

And for myself because I was hungry

20120909-171827.jpg

Verdict: 3/3 of us will return. Apart from the layered cake that was not as yummy as we thought it looked.. Looked nicer in the picture than it tasted.. :/ sesame beancurd was very wobbly and “QQ” πŸ™‚ a favourite of troopie Melissa πŸ™‚ the green tea parfait was delightful according to troopie mother πŸ™‚
Was a nice catch up session πŸ™‚

Mad for garlic

As a farewell to our dear troopie Shu aka magical panties, so we went to this restaurant as reccomended by troopie alicia and mermaid

20120905-162543.jpg

And a peak inside this garlic themed restaurant:

Kitchen

So we ordered to share between us :

White Sauteed Fresh Mussel

Dracula Killer : Soft Bread Served in Olive Oil and Anchovies

and the mains, arranged in the order of likes:

Garlic Snowing Pizza

Dancing Salsa Rice with beef

Lobster Pasta

Gorgonzola Cream Pasta : Creamy Gorgonzola Cheese with scallops and king oyster mushroom

Verdict: 6/6 of us will return here. The appetizers were very well liked by all of us. I thought the way that the garlic dip was presented was very playful. The names of the dishes as well are very creative with a playful touch. Taste wise, we were not disappointed. Rich in garlic flavours and well combined. I particularly liked the pizza and the rice – I thought the sauce for the pizza was very unique – it was like creamy but not too creamy ..a little to the sweet side, and the rice initially felt like a pepper lunch mix yourself kind of hot plate rice, but the lady that mixed it for us was very thorough in her job, and the sauces in the rice was very flavourful. The lobster pasta was also another well liked, not too heavy on the cream. The other pasta however, I think we were all not used to the type of cheese that was used to cook it .. it tasted to me alot like an overdosage of blue cheese .. hahaha .. but after a while, it was just abit too much.

Troopie beaties and I decided to go check out this ramen place ..
Its been on our “we should try it” list, and after a long while, here we are!!!!

The place is really small and crammed! So be prepared to queue at peak hours πŸ˜‰

20120909-164955.jpg

We sat at the counter near the ‘open kitchen’ and the best part about this place, there is free flow of eggs! Yes!

20120909-165130.jpg

20120909-165153.jpg

And this is how you place your order:

20120909-165314.jpg

So then I ordered,

20120909-165433.jpg

And troopie Beaties ordered:

20120909-165602.jpg

Verdict: 2/2 of us don’t think we will be returning… For me, I felt that the broth was just abit too thick for liking.. And the after taste of it was just hmms.. Abit on the oily side, but char siew was nice :/

Old Hong Kong

So for a family of Sunday lunch, we headed down to old hong kong at novena square for a dim sum fix- I must add that nowadays in Singapore, for Chinese Sunday lunches, it’s like impossible to get places unless you have made a reservation!

20120905-161832.jpg

20120905-161819.jpg

Verdict: 3.5/6 of us will return. Somehow this place is very well liked by my parents and uncle P & auntie M . But my bro and I didn’t really like this place. We felt that the standard did drop a little .. so was a little disappointing for us .. no special favourite dish, but ok, guess we couldn’t really have much of a choice since we didn’t make reservations. Nonetheless, a friendly neighbourhoodish dim sum :/

Gastronomia

The troops decided to have a BBQ so we all pot-lucked and brought things .. I was in charge of salad and dessert … So I decided to head down to Gastronomia and pick up some stuff to try! So I bought to try to contribute to the mini pot luckish:

20120829-004708.jpg

Potato Salad

and for the sweets to round off the whole meal :

20120829-004738.jpg

Banana Chocolate Cake

20120829-005049.jpg

Layered Chocolate Cake

20120829-005106.jpg

White Chocolate and Yoghurt Crumble

20120829-005125.jpg

Verdict: 8/8 of us will go for the yoghurt crumble πŸ™‚ ahhaha
I liked the potato salad as well πŸ™‚
The rest of the other cakes were too rich for our liking .. and partly we were so overstuffed from the Awesome BBQ food πŸ™‚

Peek inside the shop

Pleasure Cake

Molten Lava Cake

Rasberry Sorbet

Verdict: 2.5/3 of us will return . I came here previously and am glad to have introduced them to this place!
The sorbet though was a “no-go” .. abit too thick. but delivered its promise in its texture and sourness :/
Pleasure cake was awesome πŸ™‚ Standard still there
Lava cake was oozing with goodness πŸ™‚
A very nice place to chillax and talk the night away… πŸ™‚
