Tan po po

Havent seen my dolls for such a long while, so we headed down to tan po po at Takashimaya basement for dinner! It was a good and long catch up! Am so glad to meet them all together as a group after a long while 🙂

So mama Phua and I ordered

20120717-235017.jpg

Troopie Beaties and J-beanies ordered

20120717-235141.jpg

Troopie jans ordered

20120717-235250.jpg

And troopie Gracie ordered

20120717-235357.jpg

We all also ordered side dishes to share, such as

20120717-235505.jpg

20120717-235623.jpg

20120717-235720.jpg

And of course, to round off the whole meal, we shared dessert amongst us all
: the scoopz cake

20120717-235841.jpg
As well as

20120717-235944.jpg

Verdict: 2.5/ 6 of us will return here. Troopie beat and jean complained their noodles had the ‘floury’ taste to it – not to their particular liking. Gracie felt her noodles were too hard and didn’t taste like ramen. Her grilled pork that accompanied it was just bad. Troopie jans complained her ramen noodles were just bad. My ramen I felt was just not very.. Special. There was not much kick to it, and I felt it was quite wierd to put lettuce in it. The only redeeming point was the egg!

20120718-000516.jpg
And the cake! The sponge cake was soft and moisy! The warabi mochi on the other hand was just yucks. It was too bitter with too much matcha powder, as well as the warabi mochi ‘Q-ness’ was just too soft for a warabi mochi.

Contemporary Melting Pot & Bar

The siblings and I decided to go have a pre-lunch snack ( and I was starving) … so since we were around dempsey, we decided to just walk into one of the bistro and try it out… so we walked into

Inside of the cafe

Looking around

Menu

So we ordered .. well we just wanted something light and a pre lunch greedy snack .. so we got:

Nuggets and Truffle Fries

Mussels with White Wine

Mocha

Verdict: Hmms.. 2/3 of us will return . Nuggets were alright but i just wished they had other sauces to accompany it .. like to make it special. We ordered that because they also claimed its truffle fries, so we could have the best of both worlds. But unfortunately, there is not much truffle in the fries. The Mussels sauce was -_- .. just bland and unfortunate. Perhaps the mains would be much better. The service and environment, nonetheless, was quite nice and chillax 🙂

Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck

My lil sister is back for her holidays! So my brother booked for her to try Imperial Super Peking Duck for dim sum ( we are such good siblings, whenever we go there for dim sum lunches/ dinners, we would devotedly whatsapp her pictures of what we are having 🙂 are we good siblings or what!!! *cheeky grin)

so, together with our favorite uncle P and auntie M, they did the ordering and we ‘monstrously’ ordered:

honey-ed bacon wrapped with yam

Century Egg Porridge

teochew dumplings

Fried Toufu – with mushrooms and minced prawn

Prawn Paste with beancurd skin

Chicken Feet

Steamed Pork ribs

Yam Puffs (wu kok)

Pan Fried Carrot Cakes

Steamed Prawn rolls

Char Siew Pau

Steamed Char Siew Rice Rolls

Har Gao

Char Siew Sau

and of course, Super Imperial cannot be complete without its: Peking Duck!

Duck Breast + Condiments

Skin to be dipped in Sugar!

With the hand made skin

and with the remaining duck – because we were so stuffed with food, so we tried a new style of cooking it :

Stir Fried duck in Salt and Pepper with Chinese wine

3 types of Eggs Spinach

Close up

and of course .. to top off .. dessert!

Ma Lai Gao

Thousand Layered Cake

and of course for the lil rolly pollie :

Liu Sha Bao

Close up of the liu sha bao

Verdict: 7/7 of us will return! this place satisfies all the fussy eaters around!  Super liked!
Uploading all these pictures I think will scare people off by the portions that we eat.  But i think the few favourites were,  the honeyed bacon wrapped in yam, the yam puff ( my mum and non-yam eating siblings complimented on it being moist in the inside and not too dry after being fried, the beancurd ( minus the minced prawn for me), the steamed pork ribs -superb 🙂 and of course, the most favourite and best seller char siew sau! that was like super well liked by all of us all!
The disappointments were the har gao ( according to my prawn testers, it has “a wierd thing inside” because it was all minced prawn, the carrot cake was not pan fried crispy enough, and quite disappointing .. as well as the new way that the duck was fried. When it came, there was a strong wine smell , but i guess this method does not really go with duck since it made the meat abit tough. Although the men on the table agreed that it would go very well with beer and wine instead. The liu sha bao – we still reckoned and think east ocean has the best liu sha bao in singapore.

满汗 big meal

Let me introduce you to one of the instant mee saviours …
I was first introduced to this brand of instant mee from my dear troopie gracie when she went to Taiwan for her holiday and bought us all this brand of instant mee to try out!  Ever since then, I could no longer look back .. 🙂

Instant Mee Saviour

So step 1 : Just a tour of the inside

See! they even provide a fork! how detailed ..

and of course, the best part of this noodle that beats all the other noodles flat is that, there is meat inside!!! (can i hear the angels singing in the background?) yes MEAT not mock but 100% REAL MEAT!

so ok.. while waiting i cooked myself an egg to accompany such a meal ..

and wait ..

and wait ..

and wait …

and ………..

end product 😀

Verdict: Super love this!! 🙂 The portion is really quite huge – I almost couldn’t finish it up! the soup abit saltish for my liking but, the meat is marinated quite well and yummy!! 🙂 abit oily but oh wells, guess thats the way Taiwanese instant noodles are!!
You can find this at Fair price! 🙂

Patara

My dear friend is going to re locate to Shanghai .. so because she was craving thai food and her mum is also in town, so I decided to to bring them to try this place since they haven’t tried before, something different from the normal.

Since we were all hungry, so we ordered:

Green Mango Salad

Stuffed Chicken Wings with Thai Chilli Sauce

Clear Tom Yum Soup with Fish Slices

Chicken Pad Thai

Thai Green Curry wtih Chicken

Verdict: 3/3 of us will return! I am so glad that she enjoyed it so much, together with her mum and managed to satisfy her craving! 🙂 I came to this place more than 3 years ago i think .. and I am glad the standard is still there! I loved the stuffed chicken wings and everything we ordered! What a bittersweet meal, getting to know her mum and her :/ I think its very interesting, every family and their own dynamics 🙂

did you turn black choco panda?? :(

I was just rummaging through my fridge and I found this :

will the real panda please stand up?

I just love the expressions of these pandas 🙂

happiness is : to be a panda

worried

🙂

OOo?

and of all .. I think my most favourite at the moment 🙂

ZZZzz

Verdict: I think the bite says it all? 🙂 hmm but comparing this with the previous flavours that I have tried, I think if I had to rank .. I would rank the white chocolate first, followed by this , then the strawberry! 🙂 Could never get enough of this! they are so cute! and taste nice inside the stomach 🙂

Nan Xiang

I felt like I needed something substantial to start the day, so I dragged trooper Phillie to accompany me to eat some xlbs since that seemed to be one of the nicer things around.

20120718-002613.jpg

And we saw an old man peering closely to the decorated boxes of

steam thingies decoration

so then we ordered:

3 types of egg with bak choy

Egg White with Crab

and we found this on the menu. I must apologize i realized that we ate up all before i remembered taking a picture of it. But their xiao long baos have this flavor : SPICY crab roe flavour!!!! I however took a picture of the soup inside:

Spicy Crab Roe Soup

Verdict: 0.5/2 of us will return. Maybe. I think its unique they have the spicy xlb (xiao long bao).. No complaints about that one. I quite liked that dish. The egg white with crab on the other hand was just abit too plain (troopie mother eating it for the first time, didn’t enjoy that). Bak choy with 3 eggs a little different from the usual, instead of using spinach or the gou zi (wolfberry) leaves to accompany it.

QQ Rice

I just wanted something light to eat before my exams, but just something that might sustain me, but not end up too filling .. so i headed to my usual favourite QQ rice ball and ordered myself :

Smoked Duck Flavoured ‘onigiri’

Instructions as to how to roll it

while unwrapping

and my finished product is :

Close up!!

Verdict: I will definitely order this again! There are many other flavours to choose from, and I like how the portion is really just nice in the sense – not too much that it makes you stuffed, and not too little that you need to keep eating something else to fill the stomach. ( this is in the scenario that you are just not feeling hungry for the day.)
