Brunch Club & Supper

What an apt restaurant name that immediately caught my stomach and eyes!
Ever since coming to Hong Kong, I am pretty determined to try to find one of the best eggs benny.. I think it really cheers me up from the tiring work week.. for some reason and brings back really happy memories in Melbourne 🙂

Ice Mocha

This ice -mocha was just flat and bad.. the coffee/ latte was not strong enough and it was a little ‘thin’.

Eggs benedict 🙂

I liked how almost everything is like on the plate – real feast for the eyes and stomach. Loved the mushroom sides .. and most importantly

Happy Eggs

I would return for the ambience .. its a nice cafe to people watch and read a book . Wont come back for the coffee.

Nam Ah Restaurant 南亞1964

You know how at times, you always seem to walk past certain restaurants and then, it ends up on your ‘next time i must come back and try’ list, well this one is one of them.

I always see it being so crowded with families, and from the menu, they served Malaysian Singaporean Cuisine, infused with some Hong Kong style of cooking inside.. So i decided to go ahead since they had something on the menu that attracted me!!! I always wanted to try what Portuguese baked style of food tasted like, so what not a bettter time like now,  I ordered myself ..

Portuguese Baked Chicken

It tastes really interesting .. portuguese baked chicken .. although I wished it was a little thicker on the sauce ..
Good try but not what I would return for :/

I was kindly invited by my colleague, to join him and his visiting girlfriend from taiwan, to try out the one michi star cheap dim sum. I felt honoured that they would even invite me on a weekend! so we all went down to try it!

So of course, since they have been here before, I left the ordering to them .. and i think we almost ended up ordering everything off the menu

Chicken feet, shrimp dumplings, vegetarian rolls, steamed chives dumplings

Fried vegetable, glutinous rice

and of course my colleague mentioned, that the most important order from here is :

Baked char siew pau

This was one of the highlights for me from this place. I also liked the glutinous rice. I might come back if i am craving for this. We  special char siew pau. We went at an earlier seating – like around 6 pm, so we managed to find a seat quite quickly! when we left, we saw the long queues of people waiting to enter the restaurant!

東寶小館 Tung Po

I wont say this is my first hong kong style of zhi char that I have eaten, but I would say this is one of the best I had. 🙂 I think its very interesting, the variety of food that they can come up with and its pretty different from Singapore style of Zhi Char.

From what I noticed, most of their ‘zi char’ stalls are located above the food market, like wet market market. Amazingly as well, they are also well air-conditioned, so you don’t feel the heat while you are eating.

Lastly, this particular zhi char, you have to call in, reserve and get a queue number!!! This is how popular and famous this 🙂  exciting! can’t believe it 🙂

I really liked all the food! it was a super hit for me! and something different from the normal.

The tomato soup was so huge, I wished I had enough stomach to finish it up. There was no fishy taste in the soup, nor was it very sour.. I totally enjoyed it very much.. one of my favourite dishes of the night

I also enjoyed the “dog” – ok dont be alarmed people.. its actually in old orange peel. Super 🙂 and the squid ink pasta. I loveed it that it was something different , like cooked an asian way but I loved it all the same 🙂

This is super I will totally come back here 😀

西苑酒家 West Villa Restaurant

My first Hong Kong friend that I made was with my housing agent. Believe it or not, as random as it is. She kindly brought my parents and I around to the best eats around the city 🙂

She brought us to a dim sum lunch at TaiKoo City. She mentioned to us she used to work there before, thus can navigate around very well around Tai Koo, and reccomend us to eat this super famous char siew place.

Taikoo City is like a very self-contained ‘Ang mo Kio’ .. just abit more high class and very self-sufficient. Its very huge in its mall .. but once you step out, its nicely embedded in the midst of many residential accommodations. Very nice and well facilitated. Accordingly, alot of young couples reside in that area as well 🙂

Everywhere in Hong Kong is super crowded, especially during the weekends – its impossible to get places unless you book .. So we managed to go to one of the restaurants she reccomended after waiting to enter for quite a while ..

I think overall, maybe because we got our table very late, so most of the dim sums were sold out .. we only had a few choices to choose from. This is a maybe for me … I might come back for the char siew and pigeon, but other than that .. I doubt it though .. hmss

Wing Wah Noodle Shop 永華麵家

I brought my parents to eat this 1 Mich star acclaimed noodle restaurant 🙂 I loved the egg noodles and I thought the za jian noodles was pretty decent. Well its one of the first one I have eaten and tried when I am in Hong Kong.

I am amazed that Hong Kongers are really quite in genius when it comes to cooking. Amazing the type of dishes that they can come up with.

Pomelo Skin in special sauce

I thought this was not bad as a starter dish .. totally sour and cleanse the palate. Maybe its a cultural thing, but I am not used to the way that the pomelo is being cooked and just not to this dish.  Nonetheless, I think its still pretty .. interesting to try ..

Kailan in Superior Soup

I love the Hong Kong vegetables, especially the Kai Lan. This is my utmost favourite vegetable – I eat it all the time in Hong Kong.  The vegetables are very fresh and the way that they cook it is really unique and makes the veg so yummilicious.

Deep Fried fish skin

This is another skillful dish to me.  When they cut if off and poured it from the packet, I was thinking HUH? I paid for pre packed fish skin?? BUT When you dip the fish skin into the soup, the skin is still crispy and it crackles very happily. Yes CRACKLES! awesome

The infamous Thin thread pork zha jiang noodles hk style

This is one of the most awesome find for non-wanton-prawn lovers like me. The portioning is slightly small, but I think its just nice. Balance of the noodles and toppings just right.
Its a hit for me. definite return 🙂
