Verdict: 1/2 of us will return.

French Onion Soup: it was tasteless. I don’t think i really need to elaborate on it further.

waffles: considering this is the second time that my mum has returned, she mentioned how the first time around the waffles were much better -> in terms of the level of fluffiness and crisp. This time around both waffles were just too airy and not very crispy.

Verdict: 2/2 of us will return

Overall, if I had to comment, I would order everything again. (maybe minus the chicken karage because it was just ok… and the apple crumble ) I loved it all, especially the chirashi don! be sure to dig deeper into the bowl as there is like their home made sauce mixed deep with the rice.

I think the best thing about sitting at the counter seat was being able to witness how the chef prepared food for other people .. it was like an artist at work using ordinary ingredients to make it aesthetically beautiful without compromising on the taste.

would return for:

1. Chirashi don
2. Hana maki
3. Negi-toro tataki

would want to try:

1. Uni Shooters
2. TFS signature roll
3. Spicy Maguro Maki
4. Foe Gras Aglio Olio

Verdict: 2/3 of us will return.

Coffee: Impressive latte art! My friends had a whale and a bear latte art drawn on their coffees. Taste wise was really ok if you like your after taste to not be so acidic.

Cake: consistent texture.
sweet level: 4/5

Waffle: This was something new that kinda worked. the whitish part is cream cheese, not normal cream.Nonetheless, it was quite solid the waffle, probably due to the chocolate inside. If you like your waffles to have a slightly heavier consistency, I would recommend this one. Crispiness was not compromised even though the mixture was towards the heavy side. :)
Just a thought:
1) I think they could try to infuse the cream cheese into the waffle , as I bit into it, there was chocolate inside the waffle, so instead of chocolate, i think if they did it with the cream cheese instead and continued to drizzle the chocolate sauce on the outside, it would have been quite a pleasant surprise.
2) come up with a cream cheese ice-cream equivalent if the above mentioned menthol of infusing the cream cheese is too much of a hassle. Chocolate ice-cream was too much for me.

sweet level: 4/5

Looking forward to return and try the other desserts :)

Note* : If i had to measure sweetness level through a cup of milo drink, imagine when making a cup of milo:
Sweet Level (1 being the lowest, 5 being the highest)

  1. Not at all sweet ( = 1tbsp of milo)
  2. Subtle sweet ( = 1.5 tbsp of milo)
  3. Generally Sweet ( = 2 tbsp of milo + 1 tbsp of condensed milk)
  4. Just nice (= 2 tbsp of milo + 1 tbsp of condensed milk + 1 tbsp of sugar)
  5. Too much (= milo (9 tbsp of milo+ 2tbsp of condensed mik and sugar))

Verdict: 7/7 of us will definitely return!

1. The bamboo clams can probably be one of my favourite dish! I am not a usual raw garlic lover, but for this dish, what they did was they probably fried the garlic in butter? so it did not have that raw spiciness to the taste, but rather had a buttery fragrance. Complimented the bamboo clams very well. The clams were also not rubbery and too under cooked. I would definitely return for this again! <3

2. Overall all the food was really good here.  Butter prawns were very unique as well! different in a good way from the usual types that you come across if you happen to visit a zhi char stall. prawn assessors mentioned they were very fresh and bouncy

3. The crab bee hoon does look bait pale from the picture, but it had that “wok hei” (literal translation: wok fire.  To better explain this, it is the same logic as baking an oven dish until it turns golden brown for that ‘additional kick’, similarly in Chinese cooking, where the wok is a dominant tool in kitchen operations, the heat emitted from the open fire when translated into the food. The true test of a Chinese chef master is to be able to capture this ‘burnt’ taste from the wok and  yet not literally burn the food till the charred and inedible, in my humble opinion)

4. I wish I had more stomach space for a bowl of rice to accompany the fried fish :) Well executed and thoroughly cooked.

5. Lobster Noodles -> very well liked by everyone. Looked quite blend but tasted really good. The broth used to cook the sauce was really sweet (seafood sweet). Lobsters were sizeable .

Note: Parking here can be quite tricky.  It can be quite difficult getting a parking lot near the restaurant..

Verdict: 1/1 will return definitely!

1. This place was very different from the usual Japanese joints only because the style of cooking seemed to some extent quite home cooked

2. I ordered the most popular lunch set as recommended by the waitress, and it was really good! The chicken (ok can’t really go wrong with fried chicken) but quite a different take to the usual oyakudon ( chicken with egg on rice) with a fried twist. I like the “done-ness” of the egg yolk.

3. For a set it is quite extensive -> I couldn’t finish the whole set. Waiting time is just 20 mins..

Verdict: 2/2 of us will return!

1. The scallop appetiser was really something different from the usual in a good way, if you like creamy sauces :) Scallop was well cooked => not too raw that it is too mushy and not too over cooked that it tastes like rubber.

2. Mains:
Seafood linguine was really flavourful. The sauce was not too saltish and overall had an impactful seafood flavour. Linguine was al dente and seafood was really fresh and plentiful.
Pork Medallion : the first time that I am eating it medium rare – I always thought pork should be cooked till well done . It was really succulent and didn’t have that raw porky after taste. This cooking style was recommended by the friendly waitress and no turning back for me.

3. Desserts:
was really just nice to share after the filling mains :) . Crispy on the outside, molten in the inside :)

4. Others:
For one, service here is very good. We did not have a reservation but the waitresses and waiters attended to us very quickly and keep coming back to check in on our progress throughout the meal.

1. Pasta was not over cooked. we were not too hungry so the smaller portion (mushroom ravioli) was enough for the two of us. The bigger portion (cabonara) was also well executed.

2. loved the sweet potato fries :) was something very different. Well-battered and not too heavy :) very nice indeed.

3. Calamari was also just nothing bad and not spectacularly good. .. like its the average calamari taste across restaurants
